Wales Week London: Penderyn Distillery Raises a Glass to Welsh Excellence!

Celebrating 17 Days of Culture, Innovation, and World-Class Whisky from February 20 to March 8, 2025

The vibrant spirit of Wales is captivating London as Wales Week is in the midst of its ninth annual celebration, running from February 20 to March 8, 2025.

At the heart of this cultural extravaganza, Penderyn Distillery—the Home of Welsh Whisky—has taken centre stage, showcasing its award-winning single malt at over 130 events designed to highlight the best of Welsh culture and innovation.

Penderyn Distillery, Wales’ first whisky distillery in over a century, has been instrumental in putting Welsh whisky back on the global map. Founded 25 years ago by a group of friends in the Welsh valleys, Penderyn has grown from a local initiative to revitalise the economy into an internationally recognised brand, exporting to over 50 countries.

Stephen Davies, CEO of Penderyn Distillery, emphasises the significance of Wales Week London: “This event provides an incredible platform for showcasing our quality Welsh whisky. Our participation aligns perfectly with our mission to elevate Welsh whisky on the global stage while fostering vital business connections”.

The distillery’s commitment to innovation and excellence is evident in its unique production process. Unlike conventional Scottish and Irish distilleries, Penderyn uses the proprietary ‘Penderyn Faraday still’, which produces a distinctive spirit with an average 74% ABV. This innovative approach allows Penderyn’s mixologists to experiment with new whiskies, resulting in a light, fruity spirit with creamy toffee notes that has been described as a ‘sunshine whisky’.

During Wales Week London, Penderyn’s premium whisky is being featured at a variety of high-profile events, including finance seminars, gala nights, and discussions on Wales’ role in the UK’s clean energy future. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample Penderyn at various embassy receptions, including those at the Slovak, Hungarian, Swiss, and French embassies.

Penderyn’s participation in Wales Week London is part of a broader initiative to promote Welsh produce and culinary experiences. The distillery has been actively involved in creating innovative food pairings, combining their whiskies with both traditional Welsh dishes and global cuisines. This culinary adventure has helped redefine how whisky is enjoyed and has contributed to the rising popularity of Welsh gastronomy.

Dan Langford OBE, Chair of Wales Week London, praises Penderyn’s involvement: “Wales Week London has become the largest annual programme celebrating Wales. Penderyn has been a cornerstone of this initiative from the beginning. Their support allows guests to savour the finest Welsh products year after year”.

As Penderyn continues to expand its operations with new distilleries in Llandudno and Swansea, it remains committed to innovation and excellence. The distillery’s efforts to secure Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status for single malt Welsh whisky underscore its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of quality and authenticity.

The Wales Week ‘Best of Wales’ Gala Night on February 20, 2025, at the InterContinental Hotel, Park Lane, served as a spectacular launch for the 2025 events programme. This evening showcased the best of Welsh entertainment, including comedy, music, and sports, providing an ideal platform for Penderyn to shine alongside other Welsh talents.

As London hosts this grand celebration, attendees are experiencing the warmth of Welsh hospitality and the excellence of its produce—led by Penderyn’s exceptional whisky. Wales Week London exemplifies the best of Welsh enterprise and cultural pride, with Penderyn Distillery at its core, raising a glass to Welsh excellence.

For whisky enthusiasts, culture lovers, and anyone interested in experiencing the best of Wales, Wales Week London 2025 promises to be an unforgettable celebration. With Penderyn Distillery leading the charge, the event is set to reinforce Wales’ position as a producer of world-class whisky and a hub of innovation and culture.
