Aista was born and raised in Jonava, Lithuania, after having gained a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Kaunas University of Technology, she moved to the UK in 2004 and is proud to call Wales home. With a background in research and production laboratories, she pursued her desire for a lab-based position within the food and drink industry and in 2012, she first joined Penderyn Distillery as a Trainee Distiller and Blender. She also had the pleasure of working alongside Dr Jim Swan and she was able to hone her skills over the years, which has led to her now becoming responsible for making all of Penderyn Distillery’s award-winning single malts. As the custodian of Penderyn bulk whisky stocks, her responsibilities extend to new cask selections, management of bulk inventories and the creation of new and exciting single malt bottlings.
What do you find most rewarding about working in the whisky industry?
“You can’t beat working in the world of whisky. The most satisfying part of the job is working together with great colleagues, and meeting customers and whisky lovers all over the world. The biggest satisfaction is seeing people’s reactions when they try our whisky for the first time and knowing that they love it, alongside knowing that the products we make are award-winning spirits. The whisky world is fascinating, fun and you never stop learning.”
