Penderyn Distillery, the esteemed Welsh whisky producer, is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the ‘Man of the Match Awards’ for Merthyr Town Football Club, a dynamic semi-professional football team currently competing in the seventh tier of the English pyramid.
Penderyn’s support for the ‘Man of the Match Awards’ includes the provision of specially branded bottles, adding an extra layer of prestige to the accolades presented to outstanding players in recognition of their stellar performances on the field. This partnership exemplifies Penderyn’s dedication to championing local talent and fostering a sense of community through sportsmanship.
Penderyn has increasingly elevated its game over the last two decades. The Welsh premium single malt whisky ranks in the Top 10 best-selling single malt whiskies in the United Kingdom (Nielsen data). And on the 24th of July 2023, Welsh Single Malt Welsh Whisky, secured PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) UK GI status after Penderyn instigated the process 7.5 years ago.
Penderyn’s new £15 million Swansea distillery recently received a “Gold” VAQAS award from Visit Wales, making it the third for the company, in light of their tourism efforts and they continue to grow its global export market beyond 50 countries.
Expressing his appreciation for the collaboration, Steve Barnes, speaking on behalf of Merthyr Town Football Club, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Penderyn as sponsors for our ‘Man of the Match Awards.’ Their commitment to acknowledging and rewarding excellence aligns seamlessly with our club’s values. We eagerly anticipate a successful partnership, spotlighting both Penderyn Distillery and Merthyr Town Football Club.”
In addition to Barnes’ remarks, Robert Weller, Senior National Accounts Manager for Penderyn Distillery, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “Penderyn is honoured to support Merthyr Town Football Club and their commitment to fostering talent and sportsmanship. We believe in the power of community engagement, and this partnership allows us to contribute to the vibrant local football culture in a meaningful way.”
Established in 1911, Merthyr Town Football Club boasts a storied history, highlighted by their memorable participation in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987. Facing the formidable Italian side Atalanta, Merthyr Town emerged victorious in the first leg with a 2–1 win at home, only to narrowly miss advancing after a 2-0 defeat in Italy.
Known for its contributions to the entertainment industry, Merthyr Town Football Club counts Line of Duty star Vicky McClure and accomplished film producer Jonny Owen as its main sponsors, bringing an additional layer of glamour to grassroots football.
Penderyn’s involvement in the ‘Man of the Match Awards’ reflects the distillery’s dedication to supporting local communities and promoting excellence both on and off the pitch. The specially branded bottles presented to outstanding players serve as a tangible symbol of appreciation for their dedication and skill.
