We are delighted to have two Gold Awards for The Headliner (Jamaican Rum and Ruby Port Casks) and Rich Oak (STR – scraped, toasted and recharred European Wine Casks) from the Spirits Business World Whisky Awards which were announced today! These are the tasting results from the Spirits Business…
Penderyn Headliner:
- The sample has good fortified character, wine currant like notes and some floral and stone fruit characters. The palate feels a tad hot but some may enjoy the heat of the alcohol. The fortified wine notes do shine through.
- Burnt caramel, smoke, waxy, smooth taste, good texture.
- Very manzanilla sherry influenced, salty nuts and dried fruits. quite candied sweetness on the palate.
Penderyn Rich Oak:
- Vibrant, sweet and confected on the nose, sugary sweet with fruits – lime and lemon especially, light and vibrant on palate, sweet and fresh, green grape and red apple with icing sugar and sugar syrup sweetness.
- Sweat delicate nose. Sweet shop, canded fruits, a bit of lemon mousse on a palate too.
- The oaky sweet vanilla comes through with baked apples. and pear drops. On the palate, it has lovely dried fruit, pear drops, a touch of lemon peel and a fruity finish.
